When Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar join hands, you expect the cineplex to reverberate with laughter. Let’s not forget, the team has regaled us with some terrific entertainers in the past. Naturally then, you expect Khatta Meetha to take the legacy forward.
Unfortunately, Khatta Meetha is noise (the actors scream a lot in this movie), more noise (the great promotion) and only noise, while the content takes a complete backseat. Although Khatta Meetha shouldn’t be compared to this combo’s earlier works, since this one’s a satire, I have to add that this is their weakest film to date.
The first question I asked myself once the movie got over was, what’s the story? Okay, okay, neither did Priyadarshan’s last few films had a story to tell, but when you attempt a satire, when one talks of the hardships faced by the common man, when one talks of corruption in society, there HAS to be a story in place. That goes without saying!
Khatta Meetha raises a finger at the corruption in government establishments, but what it tries to say, or expose, has been witnessed over and over again. In fact, it’s the writing — sorry, the absence of it — that makes matters worse. The beginning is good, the middle falters and the end is exasperating.
PLUS: The ebullient performance of Sunil has made the film worth watching. Sunil has not only showed perfect comedy timing, but also showed good ease in dances and in delivering excellent performance all through the film. The storyline is very simple and delicate. The director has penned perfect screenplay to run the entire drama and he has not lost grip anywhere on the subject or scenes. But for the fantastic screenplay, the film would have been a big flop. Another highlight of the film is the superb music by MM Keeravani. Though there are just three songs, the music has created a wonder in the film. Generally in Rajamouli’s films, the audio gets a positive response only after the release of the film. However, this film has got a massive response from the audiences even before the release of the movie. Re-recording was also very good in the movie and after a long time, Manisharma won the appreciation for his music in this film. Another highlight of the film is the perfect camera work by Ramprasad. He is able to manage the graphics to suit the running of the film without any hiccups and the audiences can not find the difference between a graphic and regular shooting.
MINUS: There are very few and minor lapses in the film and they are very negligible as a director could use cinematic liberty in such scenes. A hero speeding away on a bicycle when the villain chases him on a van looks absurd. Likewise, the coconut episode also appears a little funny. The first half of the film runs a little smoothly, the second half has some bumps. The hero hanging in the mid air cuddling a telephone poll and such scenes are quite unbelievable. The family members inside the house ignoring the commotion outside, who were waiting to kill Ramu, also looks a little embarrassing. The dialogues lacked punch but are just okay. But, director Rajamouli is able to convince the audiences with his gripping screenplay and the audiences never feel boredom all through the film.
ANALYSIS: The audiences should watch the film as if they are watching a comedian playing a hero and nothing more. No high expectations should be kept in mind as the film is from the director of a blockbuster like Magadheera. Watch the film with a plain heart and cool mind and the film would never disappoint you. Surprisingly, Saloni has given a good performance.

SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. — A St. Paul man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, who turned to her iPod and Facebook to summon help, has died in jail.
Raymond Ernest Cesmat, 42, was found dead, hanging from a bed sheet inside his jail cell on Tuesday, Minnesota officials said. He had been alone in the cell and was discovered during a routine check on inmates, officials said.
Cesmat was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. If convicted, he could have faced 30 years on each offense.
On July 10, the 12-year-old said she was alone with Cesmat after her mother left for the night to stay over at her new boyfriend’s house. The girl’s mother and Cesmat had split up, but continued to rent the home together.
According to a criminal complaint, the girl told police Cesmat had taken her phone when she went to bed. He didn’t want her texting all night, the girl said. She told officers that at some point in the evening she saw a flashlight moving down the hall and knew he was coming.
The victim said girl says when he first entered her room, Cesmat was naked and tried to pull off her pants. She said she kicked him and screamed. He eventually left and she rushed to her iPod and found Facebook to find help. The 12-year-old said she tracked down Cesmat’s daughter online and asked her to call her mom right away.
As the child was sending that message, she said Cesmat returned to the room. This time, he sexually assaulted her.
In desperation, she kicked and scratched him until he left. She said she pushed a dresser in front of her bedroom door and then scrambled out the bedroom window. She said she ran to a pay phone at a nearby gas station to call her mom.
