Starring: Mohanlal, Sreenivasan

Director: T K Rajeev Kumar

Producer: Maniyan Pilla Raju

The much awaited film of Mohanlal – Sreenivasan combination hit the screens today. After all the fuss about the story and the stay from the court, the movie released today. The story of the movie was written by Sreenivasan who had a bunch of super hit movies. But this time he is not up to expectations.

The movie starts with the life around a corrupted assistant town planing officer which is done by Sreenivasan. Mohanlal’s character is Kolapully Sukumaran who is trying to make his house. Mohanlal and his daughter is living in a flat. He is separated from his wife Sameera Reddy. But he cannot get through the difficulties made by the Planning Officer to make his house. The movie advances through some funny scenes and Kolapully Sukumaran’s family life.

Just before the interval we come to know that there is a twisting suspense in the story which takes the flow of movie to another direction.

During the same time Sameera Reddy who plays the role Meera, wife of Mohanlal files a case againt Mohanlal to get her daughter with her. Due to the failure of case Mohanlal is compelled to give his daughter to Meera.

The movie lacks a rigid storyline and the absence of good comedy as expected from a Sreenivasan story make the audience disappointed. The smooth run of the story falls into gutter when ever the irrelevant family plot raises its head. Most of the time viewers get bored due to the slow growth of the story.

Rating: 2.5/5

‘Madrasapattinam’ is a much hyped movie of actor Arya and is based on a love story, which took place before independence. This movie’s content is equivalent to that of a Hollywood film and will be appealing to those audiences, who have a artistic taste.

Story

‘Madrasapattinam’ begins with a gloomy frame, with a funeral taking place, in the London city. The death ceremony is for a person named William Space, who has an old lady as his wife. The wife of William Space has a blot clot, camouflaged in her brain and that becomes intense during the funeral, thus making the old lady motionless and senseless. On a doctor consultation, they give 50/50 chances for the lady to survive after an intense surgery to her brain. But the lady gains her confidence and in sheer determination, leaves for India, in order to fulfill her last desire.

The lady enters the city of Chennai, where she memorizes all her past and the reel flows to the year 1945. She is none other than the female lead Amy Wilkinson. At the age of 18, she enters Madras, where the regime of the British is in full swing. She is a daughter of Governor General and meets a dhobi Ilamparidhi-Paridhi (Arya), who is also a professional wrestler. Paridhi belongs to washer men community and washes clothes of the British men, who are ruling the nation. Amy has a golf ground, which is in the place allotted for the dhobi community. Incidentally, she meets Paridhi (Arya) and she falls in love with him. Paridhi is a brave man and never bows to the death and goes according to his mind.

Soon, Paridhi and Amy fall in love, but then the British ruled India, is freed from the pangs of slavery. Indians are given the independence and the Britishers choose to leave the sub continent. For every Indian populace, independence is like a boon of god. But for Amy and Paridhi it is a curse, as they will get separated. Soon, like in every film story, Robert Ellis (Alexx) enters the lives of Paridhi and Amy. He is behind them and wants to prove that a britsiher is in love with a unchaste Dhobi.

The governor general learns about this and orders his men to kill Paridhi. He then takes Amy to London. But due to immense love Amy escapes the pangs of her father and reaches Madras in search of Paridhi.

What happens next is a suspense, which has to be seen on the big screen.

Performances

Arya’s acting is excellent as he gets into the skin of Paridhi, who is a dhobi cum wrestler. After his previous “ Naan Kadavul” superb performance, this actor is back with another impeccable acting work. He perfectly fits into the role and the director has squeezed the most from his acting skills.

British actress Amy Jackson is looks like an angel in the movie. She is having immense charm and has given her best to her character and her film.

Cochin Hanifa has given his best to his role of Nambi. His comedy in the movie will impress every section of the audiences.

Nasser and Alexx have given their 100% for the film.

The background score and the music of ‘Madrasapattinam’ is composed by GV Prakash Kumar and he has given an average skill of his, for this film.

Director Vijay is praise worthy, as his intellectual thinking for not casing any tamilain as Britisher has paid off. The movie looks realistic in every bit and the whole credit goes to Vijay. But the movie is unnecessarily dragged in the second off and this may make the movie buffers disappointed.

On the whole, the movie is an entertainer of this season and can be watched once.
